Feminist network promoting human rights of women and children

Announcing the Peace Day Protest and Meme Contest

Violence against women is systematic and has deep roots within our society. 1 in 3  women in the EU has experienced some form of physical and/or sexual assault since the age of 15, translating into 62 million women throughout the EU. However, governments are still not providing the funds to ensure that there are enough spaces and/or shelters for women and their children. An estimated 47,000 of recommended shelter places are still missing in Europe.

We want to put an end to this violence. This year, WAVE Network will run, with national campaigners being the focal points for their countries, two major events on the campaign´s national level. One of these events is the International Peace Day Protest, which will take place in many cities and countries on Thursday, 21 September 2017. The other is the Meme Contest, in which young people are invited to imagine and create internet memes with positive messages, as tools in building awareness about the right of women and children to live free from fear and violence. The Meme Contest is launched today in Bulgaria, Armenia, Georgia, Serbia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, and Northern Cyprus; and is open until the 12 August, the International Youth Day.
