Internet Safety

Ways to cover your tracks online:

Unfortunately it isn’t always possible to guarantee absolute online safety. But anyhow please take a few minutes to read the following notice in order to increase your online safety:

If you are at risk do not use the Internet or e-mail at home or on a computer that is being used by a person who could harm you. In this case the safest choice you can make is to download information from the Internet in a public place (e.g. a cybercafe, a public library, the workplace or on a trusted person’s personal computer). In doing so, you should take care that your login-data and passwords are not automatically saved.

E-MAIL

When a person who threatens you has access to your e-mail account the respective personcan read your incoming or outgoing e-mails. If you wish to protect yourself from someone else accessing your e-mail account use a password that can’t be easily guessed.
If you are receiving e-mails from a person containing threats or harassments, print them out in order to detain a piece of evidence in case of emergency.

INTERNET

Your internet browser saves information, data and graphics from Web sites that you have visited. To enable other persons seeing this information, delete this browser history in your browser settings as explained below.

Internet Explorer
Navigate to and select the menu “Extras”, select “Internet Options”. In the section labelled “Temporary Internet Files” press “Delete Files”. You can also delete your history by clicking the option “Clear History”

Netscape
Navigate to the “Edit” menu, select “Adjustments”, select “Navigator” and choose the option “Clear History”, then select “Advanced”, ”Cache” and select « Clear Memory Cache».

Mozilla/Firefox
Navigate to “Extras”, select “Delete Private Data” and select “History” and “Cache” and click on all those options you would also like to have deleted.

Please note the information below is for guidance only and may not completely cover your tracks. Many Browser Types also make use of other tools in order to save and track visited websites. The safest thing to do is therefore– as mentioned above – to download internet information from a public computer.
