The 54th Commission on the Status of Women

During the 2010 session, the focus lies on the 15-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995) and the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly (2000.

In March 2010, the Commission on the Status of Women will undertake a fifteen-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly. Emphasis will be placed on the sharing of experiences and good practices, with a view to overcoming remaining obstacles and new challenges, including those related to the Millennium Development Goals. Member States, representatives of non-governmental organizations and of UN entities will participate in the session. A series of parallel events will provide additional opportunities for information exchange and networking.

Ongoing national and regional review processes are feeding into the global review process.

The General Assembly is expected to mark the 15th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in a commemorative meeting during CSW.

 

The CSW WAVE EVENT will take place on Tuesday, March 9th, 6 to 7.30 pm.
Location is 11th floor room at the Church Center for the United Nations building.
The exact address is 777 UN Plaza (corner of 44th Street and First Avenue) in New York.
You will find the building almost directly opposite to the UN building.

The topic is STOP FEMICIDE & VVIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN. The event will be organized as a panel discussion and we aim to cooperate with speakers from as many continents as possible to provide an overview of and insight into this crucial issue.

Teresa INCHAUSTEGUI - Femicide Commission at the Mexican Congress
Margarita GUILEE – Director of the Mexican Shelter Network
Cecilia PAYNO DE ORIVE – Ministry for Equality Spain (requested)
Rosa LOGAR – WAVE-Network (Women Against Violence Europe)
Lily GREENAN - Scottish Women's Aid

 



The Global Network of Women’s Shelters is also hosting an event during the CSW.
It takes place on Tuesday, March 2nd from 10 to 11.30 am.
Location is Conference Room C of the temporary new UN building.
Topics will be a global overview over the work of women’s shelters in the context of the Beijing Platform. The European review is prepared by the WAVE office. Additionally, governmental representatives from inside an outside the US who have played a crucial role in moving the shelter agenda forward will be awarded by the panel.
